The Nippon Foundation Ocean Nexus Center at UW EarthLab is a 10-year, $32.5 million collaboration with The Nippon Foundation. Based on the philosophy of passing on sustainable oceans to future generations, The Nippon Foundation has been working for over three decades, with governments, international organizations, NGOs, and research institutions to foster 1430 ocean professionals from 150 countries.
As a member organization of EarthLab, we are connected with a multi-discipline, human-centered approach to problem-solving within one of the world’s great research universities.
Our vast international network of interdisciplinary researchers builds on the Nereus Program, a successful decade-long global partnership of 17 leading institutes working to advance our comprehensive understanding of the global human-ocean system across the natural and social sciences.
With these partnerships, Ocean Nexus is in a one-of-a-kind position to act, with knowledge and urgency, to expand our understanding of our relationship with oceans, so all can access and benefit from the oceans equitably.
